CessnaR182.com Joins Put Your Gear Down Campaign

By General Aviation News Staff · October 9, 2026 · Leave a Comment

CessnaR182.com, the organization representing owners, pilots, and maintainers of retractable-gear Cessna 182s, has become a partner with the American Bonanza Society and the ABS Air Safety Foundation in Put Your Gear Down, a year-long campaign aimed at reducing the rate of gear up landings and gear collapse mishaps.

Landing gear accidents are the most frequent accident type in most retractable gear airplanes. Because gear mishaps often result in the airplane being “totaled,” gear mishaps are the single greatest threat to the longevity of the retractable gear fleet, according to ABS Air Safety Foundation officials.

Announced at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026, Put Your Gear Down equips pilots, owners, and mechanics with the training, tools, and habits to prevent landing gear mishaps — every flight, every approach, every time.

Partner organizations share ABS’ commitment to reducing landing gear mishaps and help bring Put Your Gear Down education, resources, and best practices to the pilots and aircraft owners they serve.

“Our group of retractable Cessna R/TR182 owners and pilots have the same challenge as ABS with just about identical figures for gear collapse and gear up arrivals, including a need for improved maintenance,” said Scott Sellers, Cessna R/TR182 Type Club co-founder. “We look forward to engaging with the campaign.”

The club has linked to the PutYourGearDown.com website from CessnaR182.com and added maintenance information and pilot best practices specific to retractable-gear Cessna R182s and TR182s to its own website.

The Cessna R/TR182 Type Club is the first partner in the Put Your Gear Down campaign.
