The FAA is seeking input from pilots and others who use the National Airspace System about errors in automated airport weather systems, as well as clearance for a new Surface Weather Status Dashboard.
The FAA’s Air Traffic Organization plans to host a Congressionally mandated Surface Weather Status Dashboard as part of the existing FAA Weather Cameras website. A feature of the dashboard will be the ability for those who use the National Airspace System to voluntarily submit information regarding any safety issues, such as outages or erroneous data, with surface weather stations.
Once the information is verified, it will be used to trigger trouble tickets within the FAA’s Remote Monitoring and Logging System (RMLS) or corrective action to be taken to fix the problems.
“Once the trouble ticket is logged, the FAA’s Aviation Weather Cameras website will capture and display the real-time service status of all automated surface observation systems/automated weather observing systems within 30 minutes,” agency officials said on the Federal Register.
Comments must be submitted by Nov. 5, 2026 to Docket No. FAA-2026-3172.
