Skyfly Axe gets FAA nod

By General Aviation News Staff · October 10, 2025 · Leave a Comment

Skyfly, a U.K. based company, reports its Axe VCA (Vertically Capable Aircraft) has been granted an Experimental permit by the FAA.

After making its public debut at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025, the prototype remained in the United States, where its flight test program will continue.

Relocating flight testing to the USA will allow the flight testing to benefit from more stable weather through the winter, according to company officials.

It will also allow Axe SN001 to act as a customer demonstrator in the country, which is expected to become the largest market for private VCAs and eVTOLs.

The Skyfly Axe made its public debut at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025.

With a base price of $180,000, the two-seat aircraft is being marketed as a personal EVTOL aircraft “uniquely capable of operating like a conventional fixed-wing aircraft or a helicopter,” according to company officials.

“Receiving FAA Experimental authorization is a major milestone for Skyfly,” said Michael Thompson, CEO. “It allows us to move forward with piloted flight testing under the world’s most respected aviation regulator, while positioning the Axe at the heart of the US market — the largest and most dynamic general aviation community in the world. With this approval, the Axe begins the next phase of its journey from prototype to production aircraft, as we continue to demonstrate that a safe, efficient, and truly practical personal electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft is already here.”

Under the new MOSAIC rules approved in July 2025, eVTOLS can be approved as Light Sport Aircraft, company officials said, noting “this simplifies the certification process and will allow the Axe to be flown by those holding a sport pilot certificate, in addition to a full pilot license. The new rules will also allow the Axe to be used for some commercial purposes.”
