Michelin expands general aviation tire line

The tires utilize the latest carcass technology, according to company officials. The tubeless design also reduces overall wheel weight, helps eliminate tire creep on the wheel, and can be used with tube-on-tube type rims, company officials noted.

Textron Aviation enhances Caravan avionics

Starting in 2024, the Caravan and Grand Caravan EX, will offer the Garmin G1000 NXi, according to company officials. Avionics that will become standard include the GDL 60 datalink, the GTX 345DR diversity transponder, and the GI 275 electronic standby.

A monoplane and a half

Sesquiplanes enjoyed a moment in the sun as designers grappled with the robust structural truss integrity of biplanes versus the lower drag of monoplanes. Sesquiplanes, effectively a “monoplane and a half,” as described by aviation historian Joseph Juptner, used an abbreviated lower wing to enable bracing, while keeping overall span short, and reducing drag below that of a full-bore biplane.
