The Commemorative Air Force Airbase Georgia is offering a special silent auction package during its Oct. 17, 2026, fundraising event.
Those attending Moonlight Swing will have the opportunity to bid on “Warbird Pilot for a Day,” a package that includes flying in three Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airbase Georgia aircraft: A Boeing N2S Stearman biplane trainer, an LT-6 Mosquito trainer with aerobatics, and the Airbase’s most popular aircraft, the P-51 Mustang.
The day will simulate a typical training sequence for new World War II pilots, according to officials.
The winning bidder will begin the day with the first of three ground school training sessions. After training, the Stearman will depart for the first ride of the day. The second ground school will cover the operations of the LT-6, with an aerobatic flight to follow. After a third ground school, the “Warbird Pilot for a Day” will climb into the P-51 for a flight in the historic aircraft that protected Allied bombers over Germany in World War II. All three aircraft are part of Airbase Georgia’s fleet of restored aircraft that offer rides at air shows and special events.
The day will close with the presentation of a leather pilot’s jacket, certificate, and photos to mark the occasion.
“This opportunity has never been offered before, and it is a perfect showcase for the capabilities of Airbase Georgia as we kick off a much-needed capital campaign to grow our hangar and classroom spaces,” said Airbase Leader Mark Richards. “Our guests at Moonlight Swing will enjoy an unprecedented, immersive evening of 1940s music and atmosphere, highlighted by our aviation silent auction.”
CAF Airbase Georgia, based in Peachtree City, Georgia, was founded in 1987. The Airbase is one of the largest units of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF). The group maintains and flies seven vintage military aircraft, including a P-51 Mustang, an SBD Dauntless, a P-63A Kingcobra, a PT-19 Cornell, a T-34 Mentor, and a Stearman biplane. Two aircraft are undergoing restoration: An FG-1D Corsair and a P-47 Thunderbolt.
