Record attendance for Girls in Aviation Day
Through events hosted by WAI chapters and corporate members, the number of GIAD participants more than doubled to over 30,000 compared with 16,000 attendees at GIAD 2022, according to WAI officials. The number of countries where events were held grew to 31 countries this year versus 19 countries last year. The number of events also increased to 168 events compared with over 120 last year.
Girls in Aviation Day set to take off
According to officials with Women in Aviation, more than 150 events are planned at airports, FBOs, museums, and hangars across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Africa, and Asia, on Sept. 23, 2023.
Applications open for $1 million in scholarships
There are more than 105 scholarships valued at more than $1 million offered by Women in Aviation for flight training, engineering, maintenance, dispatch, drones, and professional development for individuals in all stages of life. This 2024 scholarship cycle includes nearly 10 new scholarships to further members’ learning in flight training, space engineering, and aircraft maintenance.
Women in Aviation launches mentor program
Designed to connect aspiring WAI members with seasoned aviation professionals, Mentor Connect “aims to foster meaningful mentorship relationships that will empower and support women in achieving their aviation career goals across all segments of the aviation industry,” such as maintenance, engineering, flight deck professions, and more, WAI officials said.

Now in its sixth year, the #HonorTheWASP program was established by Women in Aviation to take place over the Memorial Day weekend each year.
