Tom Platner with wife Janet and Wes Tanaka and I and my wife Joan had hoped to fly to Madeline Island in Wisconsin for a weekend stay early September 2023. To land on Lake Superior water requires an unusually low wind day but we were lucky! After landing at the Beach Club beach in La Pointe on Madeline Island we had lunch then took off for a tour around the Apostle Islands. One of the most picturesque of the Apostles is Devil’s Island with a lighthouse that looks like a rocket ship. Flying formation with three SeaReys around the Apostles was surrealistic. Seaplane base approved for Washington lake
According to officials with the Washington State Department of Transportation Aviation, the Dorothy Scott International Seaplane Base will “reboot” one that was in the same area many years ago but disappeared.

Underwing carriage of torpedoes, bombs, or depth charges made the Kawanishi H8K1 and H8K2 lethal sub and shipping hunters. But their debut as land bombers the night of March 4, 1942, proved inauspicious when cloud cover obscured the prized target of Honolulu. The largely unheralded second attack by the Japanese on Oahu was a bust.
