A thermodynamic chart such as the Skew-T log (p) diagram is the best-kept secret in aviation for general aviation pilots who want weather guidance for preflight planning, according to Dr. Scott Dennstaedt.

LogTen updated to include multitasking and new navigation to streamline pilot workflow
LogTen 2022.1 for iPad is optimized to take advantage of the capabilities of iPad split screen functionality, according to company officials.
Garmin Pilot updated
The update includes a variety of new features, including the ability to take notes on the screen, decoded NOTAM text, and more.
Sporty’s releases new E6B app for Apple computers
The interface and functionality are nearly identical to the iPad version of the E6B app, except that interaction is accomplished with the mouse/trackpad and keyboard, officials said, noting many pilots prefer to do their preliminary flight planning working from the larger screen of a computer. Already own the iPhone or iPad app? You can download it to your computer at no additional cost.
‘Made up’ arrival points a safety issue
There are two VFR arrival points being used at Tulsa Riverside Airport (KRVS) in Oklahoma called “Turnpike Split” and “Cross Creek Warehouse.” Neither of these arrival points are charted and neither are readily located by any normal level of flight planning before being directed to one of them by ATC. The only place I have found written reference to them is buried three pages deep on the airport association website.
Garmin Pilot app adds new terminal environment NOTAM alerts and graphical runway closures
Runway closure NOTAMs are now color-coded, with other features added as well.
Space launch areas added to navigation charts
All 12 FAA-licensed spaceports, and other federal and private launch and reentry sites, are represented on the charts by a rocket symbol. These areas are in Alaska, California, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Virginia.
Garmin Pilot adds graphical weather briefings and NAVAID NOTAMs
Garmin has added new features to the Garmin Pilot app, including the ability to generate a graphical weather briefing from Leidos Flight Service, plus graphical NAVAID NOTAMs to depict when a NAVAID has limitations or is out of service.
SayWeather automated airport weather advisories now available on ForeFlight
SayWeather is an automated weather reporting system that retrieves weather from an on-airport solar-powered weather station and provides that information via an AWOS-like advisory over the airport’s UNICOM frequency. And now that information is also available through ForeFlight’s airport view.
