Electric-hybrid general aviation plane recharges batteries in flight
Cassio aircraft use electric motors for all-electric power during taxi, takeoff, primary flight, and landing. The hybrid feature with an internal combustion engine comes into play as a range extender, recharging the batteries while in flight, according to company officials. Additionally, this hybrid element serves as a backup in the event of a problem with the electric propulsion, they said.

Diamond’s electric DA40 promises recharge in 20 minutes or less
Diamond officials say the eDA40 will be the first EASA/FAA Part 23 certified electric airplane with Direct Current (DC) fast charging capable of turning around a depleted aircraft in under 20 minutes. Textron, parent company to Cessna, Beechcraft and Bell, is buying Pipistrel, a pioneer in electric aircraft. Once the deal closes, Textron will create a new business segment called Textron eAviation.
