Officials with the Recreational Aviation Foundation note that 144 public use cabins in the Tongass National Forest across southeast Alaska are in danger of being closed due to lack of use.

I arrived in Petersburg at Lloyd R Roundtree Seaplane Facility (63A) in Alaska to pick up a southbound charter passenger for Ketchikan, just as the Scott was departing his own base on a charter elsewhere. Summer time in Southeast Alaska can be a real busy flying time, if the weather cooperates. We are moving around remote lodge guests, US Forest Service rental cabin campers, mining and exploration teams, fishermen, and government personnel, just to name a few. I love the energy of it, and the missions are different every day.”
