Epic Flight Academy partners with Florida college

By General Aviation News Staff · May 1, 2025 · Leave a Comment

Epic Flight Academy and Seminole State College of Florida (SSC) in Sanford have signed an agreement that allows Epic-trained pilots to transfer their certifications as college credit toward a degree at SSC.

Pilots can earn up to 27 credit hours toward an associate’s degree:

  • Private Pilot (six credit hours)
  • Instrument Rating (six credit hours)
  • Commercial Single-Engine (six credit hours)
  • Commercial Multi-Engine or Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument (four credit hours)
  • Certified Flight Instructor (five credit hours)

An SSC associate’s degree requires 60 credit hours, so Epic pilot training can fulfill nearly half of that requirement, according to academy officials.

“This agreement with Epic Flight Academy offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals to not only earn college credit but also to complete a credential at Seminole State faster,” said Dr. Loretta Ovueraye, vice president of Academic Affairs at Seminole State. “With the credits earned from their licensure, students will be a step ahead and have a wide range of options to continue their education in preparation for a successful career in some of Florida’s high-demand, high-paying industries.”

Epic Flight Academy, which has 10 campuses, offers FAA-certified flight and aircraft mechanic training. Seminole State College began offering classes in 1966 and has six sites. Seminole State offers associate and bachelor degrees.
