WAUSEON, Ohio – From the ashes of the pandemic comes the birth of a new fly-in at Fulton County Airport.
“Let me go back to the beginning. The thought process behind starting a new fly-in originated last summer, when event after event after event was being canceled because of the pandemic,” said Fletcher Birmingham. “And so as we started to talk about it. We said we need something to look forward to, so why don’t we just drive a stake in the ground and say we’re going to host an event, and we’ll use our range as next summer, right?”
That event will be held Aug. 6-8, 2021.
Fletcher said they hope to differentiate their event by adding an aircraft and aviation memorabilia auction.
“Some airplanes, aircraft memorabilia, could be artwork, could be parts, could be cleaning up the hangar,” continued Fletcher. “And instead of having a swap meet, set it up so that we have an auction format themed around aviation.”
The fly-in will also host Young Eagles flights, area aviation museum displays, and good fuel prices, he said.
The airport is a large venue, he added, noting camping will be allowed at the neighboring fairgrounds.
