Okay, so Ben Lomov talks a bit fast, but he’s just 21 years old and flew a Pitts S1 from the east coast to the west coast. I’d probably be excited as well. Plus, it’s his first video.
Flying from coast-to-coast is a monumental event. Even more so in a single-seat plane with a short range and a squirrelly landing profile.
I was impressed by how Ben dealt with his overheated iPhone, which also happened to be his lone navigation tool.
Enjoy.
You’ll remember this trip all your life.
Enjoy and God Bless.
Happy landings,
That was a wonderful feat that you accomplished and a great video.
Please do more – put them on You Tube.
I am contemplating a cross continent trip in my homebuilt Xenos this summer. How did you find hangar space along the way? Its my biggest worry.
Being an experienced Pitts pilot I can appreciate the planning and skill level of this young pilot. It is also encouraging that there is a pilot who can fly without a glass cockpit and actually looks outside. Great job and video.
“It is also encouraging that there is a pilot who can fly without a glass cockpit and actually looks outside….” A glass cockpit does not preclude looking ‘outside’ and begs the question why anyone would forgo advanced avionics at all.
Some folks would consider an I-Phone to be “advanced avionics”…..
Enjoyed hearing about Ben’s trip. I sold my Corby Starlet and a young man flew it to the new owner in North Carolina from Clear Lake CA in sixteen flying hours in two and a half days. Not bad for a plane with an 18 foot wing span, weight 500 lbs and a fuel capacity of 18 gallons powered by a 70 HP VW engine. And it would do all the ACRO a Pitt’s could do.
Superb Video. Greatz from Holland! Fun watching. The homeland is the place to be for flying. Safe landings!
