R. A. “Bob” Hoover will forever cast a huge shadow over all of aviation. His recent passing (October 25) at the age of 94 sent a shockwave through the broader aviation family.
From Airailimages: “Fifteen hundred friends of Bob Hoover gathered at Clay Lacy Aviation in Van Nuys, California, on 18 November for a heartfelt send-off and celebration of the life of test pilot and air show pilot Hoover. Flyovers during an Air Force 21-gun salute included two F-16s from the USAF Thunderbirds in formation with one Tutor from the Canadian Air Force Snowbirds and a T-39 Sabreliner, followed by an F-22 bracketed by two F-86 Sabres, and a poignant missing-man formation with Bob Hoover’s own Old Yeller P-51 Mustang peeling away from the formation as viewers clapped; some wept. Speakers at the event, including Harrison Ford, said Hoover’s legacy can live on as a stimulus to encourage young people in aviation.”
Farewell Bob. You were an inspiration to all of us who were fortunate enough to view your masterful airshow performances over the years.
The Sky is now blue for ever long.. Mr. Bob Hoover.
