PELL CITY, Ala. – “My husband and I decided that since we were involved in general aviation so much while we were dating, it would only be fitting to get married doing what we truly love,” started Aliece Dice’s email to me in response to her reading about the couple who used SocialFlight to invite guests to their wedding. “We decided early on in our engagement to either get married in an airplane hangar or in the air.”

The latter was the ceremony of choice for Aliece and JP Dice. JP is the pilot in the family and Chief Meteorologist for Fox 6 in Birmingham, Ala.
A friend with a Cessna Conquest II offered his plane as the venue for the nuptials. Another pilot, Alan Furr performed the ceremony. In all, seven people – two pilots, two close friends, Furr, Aliece and JP were on board the Conquest.

“We said our ‘I do’s’ – on Dec. 17, 2011 – at around 6,000 feet as we toured above Birmingham,” continued Aliece. “One the highlights of the ceremony was getting a big ‘Congrats’ from Birmingham Approach Control (orchestrated by one of the pilots up front flying the plane).”
The couple’s reception was held in one of the hangars at St. Clair County Airport with a combination Aviation and Christmas theme. Furr – the officiant and current District Court Judge for St. Clair County – is also the lead singer and guitarist of The WingNuts, who played the reception.

Since the wedding, the couple has flown their Piper PA-28 to Key West, the Bahamas, Chicago and “lots of other cities in between.”
“The Freedom of Flight is an understatement in our book,” said Aliece.
I have said for more than forty (40) years, general aviation brings people together. Congrats on your beautiful, uplifting wedding!
