The annual Warhawk Air Museum’s Warbird Roundup was held August 30-31 in Nampa, Idaho. Airailimages was on site with cameras in hand.
From the YouTube description, “Warbirds from as far away as the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, Calif., came to Nampa, Idaho for the Warhawk Air Museum’s Warbird Roundup the weekend of 30-31 August 2014. An F4U-1A Corsair joined a P-38 Lightning and several Mustangs and P-40s for the show.”
Always proud to see my birth state of Idaho hosting some GA-promoting event. My father, who was not a wealthy man, was able to log over 500 hrs back in the 1950s piloting a T-Craft and a Luscombe, co-owned with a partner, out of the Floating Feather airstrip (now a suburban housing development) just west of Boise.
As recreational flying gets pushed out of the increasingly crowded airspace on the coasts, rural areas far from Class Bravo and even Class Charlie will become more and more important to preserving the freedom to fly which has long distinguished this country from so many others.
Alaska is probably the big enchilada for freedom of flying, but Idaho and its neighbors Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Eastern Washington and Montana still constitutes one of the largest preserves for recreational flight activities in the world.
Enjoy it while you can, and pay attention to politics in order to allow our children and grandchildren to enjoy the same privileges.
