Hot air balloon ground school set for general aviation pilots

By Janice Wood · January 12, 2012 ·

Palmetto Sun Balloons, a family run hot air balloon company in South Carolina, will be conducting a Hot Air Balloon Ground School for general aviation private and commercial pilots the weekend of Feb. 25-26.

The school will be held at the Runway Café at Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) beginning at 8 a.m. each day.

The FAA written test will be available on Sunday for $150 at Greenville Aviation for those wishing to take it. The cost of the class is $200 for students and $100 for people wishing to receive refresher training. The registration fee includes all materials.

The Palmetto Sun Balloon staff has been in ballooning since 1981 and has a combined flight time of over 5,000 hours in balloons and fixed wing, general aviation aircraft. They have flown for major sponsors such as Ziploc, Coors and Re/Max and local sponsors such as WESC and WSPA. They have instructed many students from ground training all the way through their commercial licenses and have a perfect safety record.
