Bambi bends Mirage

This April 2010 accident report is provided by the National Transportation Safety Board. Published as an educational tool, it is intended to help pilots learn from the misfortunes of others.

Aircraft: Piper Mirage. Injuries: None. Location: Clemson, S.C. Aircraft damage: Substantial.

What reportedly happened: The airport was bordered by a wooded area with no fence separating the two. The pilot was attempting a night takeoff. As the airspeed reached 60 knots, the pilot saw a herd of deer walking across the runway and felt something hit the airplane.

Lawmakers seek estimate of what taxpayers spent on LightSquared testing

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sen. Chuck Grassley and Rep. Michael Turner have asked the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to account for how much taxpayer money the federal government spent to test LightSquared’s wireless network for interference with GPS and government telecommunications devices.

NavWorx offers free ADS-B weather With WxBox

NavWorx has added Wi-Fi support to its line of ADS-B receivers and Universal Access Transceiver (UAT). The company’s WxBox is a portable unit designed to receive free broadcast weather from a nationwide network of ADS-B stations. Wi-Fi enables NavWorx ADS-B devices to exchange data wirelessly with a variety of portable and panel-mounted display devices, including Garmin, iPad, and other popular devices, company officials said.

PrayerFlight pilots needed in four states
