The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has committed to hold its general aviation trade show and convention, the AOPA Aviation Summit, at the Palm Springs Convention Center Oct. 11-13, 2012, as well as Oct. 9-11, 2014.

Lawmaker launches ‘America Flies’ to boost general aviation
Hoping to battle what he says has been damaging rhetoric against general aviation from President Barack Obama, U.S. Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kansas) has launched the America Flies campaign, which features a website where aviation advocates can sign a petition promoting the industry and share their stories of how general aviation has benefited them. According to the Wichita Business Journal, Pompeo hopes the message of the industry’s benefits will be passed along to decision makers and legislators.
Aerobatic pilots develop safety solution to reduce risk of fire
Aerobatic pilots Buck Roetman of Wild Horse Aviation, and Mike Stewart, Flight Lead for Team RV, have unveiled a new safety solution for professional air show pilots to reduce the risk of a post-impact fire: An inertia activated shut-off switch installed in the ground wire to fuel and smoke oil pumps.
Cirrus debuts five seating capacity
Cirrus Aircraft has introduced expanded seating capacity in its SR20, SR22 and SR22T general aviation aircraft models, available for 2012.
WASP honored in new novel
In 2010 Congress awarded the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II with the Congressional Gold Medal. KJ Tillinghast combined this recent event and his parents’ activity in the war to write a new aviation-themed novel “Kittyhawks.”

A general aviation aircraft, Pipistrel‘s Taurus G4 — winner of the NASA Green Flight Challenge — has been chosen by the Design Museum in London as a nominee for the Designs of the Year 2012.

Flying back to the airport my instructor handed me the microphone prompting me to get an airport advisory. Without much choice, I said “Brainerd Unicom, Cessna 757 Echo Yankee, 10 miles out to the South, inbound for landing, airport advisory please.”
