“Silver and white Cirrus, right side of the runway.” As I taxied my aircraft through the chaos at Wittman Regional Airport (OSH) on the last day of AirVenture, it was hard to believe that only one week ago I had arrived at the big show for the first time.
The World War II B-17G bomber, “Sentimental Journey,” will be on display and available for rides and tours from Aug. 9-13, at the Lewis-Clark Air Festival in Lewiston, Idaho.
More on 650 aviators participated in the new Pilot Proficiency Project spearheaded by the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) at AirVenture. Conceived by SAFE, presented in partnership with Redbird Flight Simulations, and hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), SAFE member-instructors presented 14 forums, while all 58 simulator training sessions in the Redbird FMX were filled as well, with daily slots booking completely within the first two hours each day, while more than 50 pilots received instruction in Redbird’s Crosswind Trainer. Pilots who participated in the project also qualified for WINGS credit.
At the Arlington Fly-In in July I bought a Blade Scout radio-controlled (RC) helicopter. It’s a beginner-level RC. It’s also an absolute blast to fly.
Horizon Hobby was the exhibitor. ”We are trying to reach new markets, that’s why we are here in Arlington,” said Kim Payne from Horizon Hobby. “We’ll be at AirVenture as well.” Both displays were packed with people every time I happened by.

SEATTLE, Wash. — The Museum of Flight‘s Need for Speed Festival, “gives our visitors the opportunity to get an up-close and personal look at some amazingly fast aircraft, cars and even a hydroplane,” said Doug King, Museum of Flight president and CEO. “We are excited to partner more closely with Seafair this year to offer a unique, backstage look at the Blue Angels air show, while giving our guests and members a weekend packed full of family-friendly activities for everyone.”
Last week’s AirVenture was the launch site for a multi-state demonstration tour for the Piper Seneca V, a twin-engine turbocharged aircraft.
OSHKOSH — The Oshkosh Express will make a return to Oshkosh in 2013, when a Boeing 777 will deliver over 340 aviation enthusiasts from Australia and New Zealand to AirVenture.
