Dates for Southeast Aviation Expo 2013 announced
The 2013 Southeast Aviation Expo will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, and Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) in South Carolina.
Eclipse Fly-In held
BRANSON, MISSOURI – Forty-three Eclipse Jets recently landed at the Branson Airport for the Eclipse Owners Club Fall Fly-In. Pilots and enthusiasts alike came from all over the United States to take part in the annual fly in that allows pilots to visit with vendors and fellow owners to discuss the Eclipse Twin-Engine Jet.
Witmer’s Aircraft Service holds East Coast Fly-In
Witmer’s Aircraft Service hosted the East Coast Fly-in Oct. 20 at its facilities at Pottstown Municipal Airport (N47) in Pennsylvania. Open to all pilots and working in conjunction with the Bellanca-Champion Club, the East Coast Fly-in was attended by over 50 people, some traveling from as far as North Carolina to attend, according to organizers.
Copperstate takes off in one week
The 2012 COPPERSTATE Fly-In & Aviation Expo — now in its 40th year — takes off in one week, opening Thursday, Oct. 25 and running through Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Casa Grande Municipal Airport in Casa Grande, Ariz.
Hundreds of aircraft will be on hand, so attendees can get up close and personal with virtually any kind of “flying machine” they’d like to see, organizers promise, noting “The beauty of a fly-in format is that you never know what will show up!”
Piper plans 75th anniversary Vero Beach Fly-in
VERO BEACH, FLA. — Piper Aircraft and the Piper Cub’s year-long 75th anniversary celebration will culminate with a customer fly-in Nov. 9-11. The invitation-only weekend features a welcome reception, vendor exhibits, aircraft static display, customer awards, facility tours, a history lesson from Piper’s official historian, a Piper meet-up and send-off pancake breakfast.
Berg Aerodrome slates open house
The Grass Strip Foundation at Berg Aerodrome (9GA2) in Midway, Georgia, will hold its third annual Open House Saturday, Oct. 27.
Owner Steve Berg invites all pilots and aviation enthusiasts to fly in their vintage airplanes or drive in their vintage cars to the open house and “enjoy telling the rest of us how great they are.”
Sonoma Jet Center to host Aviation Day Saturday
SANTA ROSA, Calif. —Sonoma Jet Center will host its 3rd annual Aviation Day on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport. The Aviation Day is a free and interactive event with activities for all ages and levels of aviation interest and involvement.
Proficient Pilots Project debuts
The FARs require a pilot perform three takeoffs and landings within 90 days to maintain currency. Maintaining proficiency takes significantly more time, and often it is a lack of proficiency that leads to accidents and incidents.
During AirVenture 2012, flight instructors from the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) volunteered their time for the inaugural Pilot Proficiency Project. Conceived by SAFE in 2010, the demonstration project was a cooperative effort that involved Redbird Flight Simulations and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).
Zenith celebrates 20th anniversary
Hundreds of people from all over the country and from as far away as Australia attended the Zenith Open Hangar Day and 20th Anniversary celebration held the weekend of Sept. 22 at the company’s headquarters in Mexico, Missouri. According to a post at EAA.org, picture-perfect weather helped draw upward of 400 attendees and more than 40 Zenith aircraft and others.
