Looking ahead to a better year

Happy New Year! Everyone in aviation from hang gliders to jets is hoping for a year of improvement in 2012. Certainly it’s been a tough four years since 2008’s tumble.

Many see hope and promise in the arrival of a new year and that mood is powerfully amplified by the Sebring LSA Expo in January. Starting its eighth run with new management, the Florida event, slated for Jan. 19-22, is a welcome respite. More than 10,000 attendees will flock to the Sunshine State to catch the action in the newest, most dynamic slice of the aviation pie.

Recovery continues for Reno crash survivor Larry Cruz

I spoke with Larry Cruz‘s wife, Tracy, last week about his recovery from the accident at this year’s Reno Air Races. He finally made it home on November, two months after the accident. While hospital-bound, friends and family outfit their home to make it easier, and safer, for Larry to move around. A new prosthetic arm is on order and he’s still taking anti-biotics for his leg. Doctors are still unsure if the plate in his leg is the cause of the infection. Larry and Tracy were able to attend the Cascade Warbirds Christmas Party. See the YouTube video from the party here. Overall, Tracy says Larry is doing well, and his spirits remain good, but is challenged with not be able to move around easily. That’s been a huge transition for him.
