Sporty’s Fly-In draws record crowds

Thanks in part to an ideal day for both flying and strolling around a beautiful general aviation airport, Sporty’s annual fly-in drew more than 1,000 attendees, arriving both by car and airplane. Approximately 200 aircraft arrived during the fly-in, making Clermont County/Sporty’s Airport one busy place on Saturday, May 19.

Attractions included dozens of commercial exhibitors, free seminars, shopping at Sporty’s retail shop and, of course, Sporty’s signature free hot dogs.

Tennessee EAA Steam Plant Fly-In slated

EAA Chapter 1343 and GTO Aviation are hosting a Tennessee Valley Regional Fly-In and Expo on Saturday June 23, at Sumner County Regional Airport (M33) in Gallatin. This all-day event will feature a pancake breakfast, live music, catered lunch, displays, vendors, educational sessions and plenty of airplanes.

The engines of AERO Part II

Your blogger briefly mentioned the engines on display at AERO Friedrichshafen 2012 in a previous report on April 22. With Europe’s largest general aviation show now two weeks past, I thought it was time to provide a few more details. With the previous two shows having focused great attention on electric propulsion, AERO organizers wisely chose 2012 to showcase advances in piston and turbine engines, and there was a great deal to see indeed.

Virginia Festival of Flight smacked by storms

After a very dry and near record high average temperature in Virginia in March and on much of the East Coast, Mother Nature decided to make up for the dearth of rain with clouds, rain and storms arriving at Suffolk Executive Airport on Saturday afternoon, the first day of the Virginia Festival of Flight.

Marysville Army Airfield to celebrate 70th anniversary

Olivehurst, Calif. — The theme of the June 8-10 Golden West Regional Fly-In & Airshow at Yuba County Airport (MYV) is, “Keeping the Spirit Alive – Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Marysville Army Airfield.” The 70th Anniversary of Camp Beale and the Doolittle Raid will also be recognized. Pilots of all types of aircraft from Light Sport to our Military Jets are expected to participate. According to Golden West President Amy Clemens, “The event is as much about the aircraft as it is about friends coming together to renew acquaintances and to make new ones.”
