Stuck valve leads to power loss

Aircraft: Cessna 180. Injuries: None. Location: Omaha, Neb. Aircraft damage: Substantial.

What reportedly happened: The airplane was on final approach and a half-mile from the runway when the engine lost power. It came down in trees short of the runway.

The other side of Summit

Picture this: 80 airplanes, more than 400 booths, and hours of seminars in beautiful Palm Springs, Calif. That pretty much sums up this year’s Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Aviation Summit.

In the more than 10 years I have been working at General Aviation News, I have been to the annual event many times as a reporter. This was the first time I attended as a presenter, as I volunteered wearing my flight instructor cap.

SocialFlight 2.0 launches

Where2 Interactive has launched SocialFlight 2.0, a newly enhanced version of the free mobile app that provides pilots with an interactive map of thousands of aviation events and the ability to share those events with friends. This new release also coincides with membership surpassing 10,000 users and the database reaching over 3,000 aviation events in 2012, company officials note.

Wings of Freedom Tour to stop at Sebring LSA Expo

The Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom Tour will stop at the Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Florida, this January.

Expected to attend the show, known by most as the Sebring LSA Expo, is the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine,” Consolidated B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft,” and P-51 Mustang (pictured). All are slated to fly into Sebring Regional Airport at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 18.

First fuel-injected CTLSi flying

After an introduction of the new fuel-injected Rotax 912 iS engine to European and American markets earlier this year, the Austrian engine company is now in full-scale production of the upgraded engine. Flight Design has been working diligently with the new powerplant and upgrades for it, according to company officials, who report a group of 912 iS-powered CTLSi aircraft are landing in America.
