The FAA has approved type certification for GE Aviation’s H80 turboprop engine. FAA engine certification follows similar certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) that the engine received in December.

Pacific Coast Avionics, located on Aurora State Airport in Aurora, Oregon, has completed a contract to upgrade the panels on a fleet of three Cessna Caravans. The Caravans are owned and operated by Westwind Air, which has a number of parachute jump schools located around the United States.

Engine failure leads to crash

Aircraft: Cessna Crusader Injuries: 1 Fatal Location: Louisa, Va. Aircraft damage: Destroyed.
What reportedly happened: During takeoff, one witness noted that one of the airplane’s engines seemed to be running rough and did not appear to be generating power. Several other witnesses, located about a half mile northwest of the airport, saw the airplane pass overhead in a right turn. The engine noise did not sound normal.
Questions abound about user fees

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Over the past few years, several reports have been written about suggestions, proposals, and announcements that new fees would be placed on aviation. Most recent of them refer to a fee of $100 per landing for jet aircraft introduced in the President’s budget for 2013.
Following published stories of these reports and rumors, a few people in general aviation have commented that the reporting has been incomplete because — they believed — it did not stress that the fee would apply only to jets, and therefore was not of concern to the average general aviation pilot. It is time to clarify the reporting and to show why those individuals and groups who see the whole aviation picture remain concerned.
For airshows and other aviation events, local is the way to go

If you hold off attending local aviation fly-ins, conferences and airshows so you can attend one of the “big ones,” like AirVenture or Sun ’n Fun, you are missing out. I’m back from the March 1-3 Montana Aviation Conference in Bozeman. This was the 28th conference and I can tell you it was wonderful.
New law exempts Florida FBOs from tax

General aviation advocates are hailing the passage of new legislation that will benefit not only aviation businesses in Florida, but general aviation aircraft owners. Language in a new economic development bill includes sales-tax exemptions for repairs and equipment on aircraft that weigh 2,000 pounds or more. The previous exemption was for aircraft that weighed 15,000 pounds.
