Northwest Aviation Show prepares for takeoff

Just when the short winter days and grounded planes become too much to bear for aviators at the end of February, there’s a sign of happier airborne days ahead. For many, the annual Northwest Aviation Conference & Trade Show marks the end of winter in the Northwest.

The 29th annual Northwest Aviation Conference & Trade Show will be held Feb. 25-26 at the Blue Gate of the Western Washington Fairgrounds in Puyallup, Wash.

Ground school, AirVenture camp scholarships available

For the sixth year running, the Cascade Warbirds is accepting scholarship applications. This year, students can apply for either Private Pilot Ground School and Introduction Flights or a trip to EAA AirVenture Aviation Camp 2012 to be held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Sebring’s record crowds, brisk sales & sunny skies

The eighth running of Sebring just finished and a resounding success it was on nearly all counts. A few dour faces noted exhibitors were off a rather modest 5% (according to officials) but in every other category, smiles were broad from most attending or exhibiting at Sebring 2012. Sebring reports record attendance

Organizers of the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo held in Sebring, Florida, Jan. 19-22, report record attendance for the show, no doubt helped by sunny skies and warm weather. “For two hours on Saturday, Sebring Regional Airport was the busiest airport in the country,” organizers said.

A great little airplane, now becoming rarer

This story began as fall sunlight kissed the grass at The Flying Circus Aerodrome in Bealelton, Virginia, some 50 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. The surprise was two Aeronca L-16s among the show’s Stearman and WACO “heavy-iron.” There were even post-show rides and mid-week dual available in one of the post-war period’s great little airplanes.

Gleim offers student pilot certification

This year’s U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Fla., will be held this week, Jan. 19-22, and Gleim will be there to help prospective general aviation pilots start their certification journey. Interested individuals can take a two-hour Gleim course at the show to learn more about becoming a pilot and be issued an FAA Student Pilot Certificate, which is required before flying solo.
