The top surface of the Shure-Step II is very rough to keep mechanics safe during aircraft maintenance, company officials said. The step stool is rated for 500 pounds, yet only weighs 10 pounds. Six large rubber pads on the bottom of the Shure-Step II prevent the step from scratching the paint on an aircraft, and ice cleats keep the step from sliding during icy winter conditions.
