Master Instructors has released its July 2009 initial and renewing Master Instructors.
There are approximately 92,000 CFIs in the United States. Fewer than 700 of them have earned Master accreditation. The FAA has approved the accreditation as an alternate means for CFIs to renew their flight instructor certificates.
Aviation educators who earned the “Master” title during July are:
Ernest Paul “Rusty” SACHS, Master Instructor Emeritus, Norwich VT
Rusty Sachs, a 7-time Master CFI, was recently granted Master Instructor Emeritus (MIE) status in recognition of his many years of commitment to excellence, professional growth, service to the aviation community, and quality aviation education. A Marine helicopter pilot (HMM-362) and Vietnam veteran, he also served as a pilot examiner and FAASTeam representative in the FAA’s Portland, Maine, FSDO area.
John Robert MORROW, Master Instructor Emeritus, Lake Katrine NY
John R Morrow, a 6-time Master CFI, was recently granted Master Instructor Emeritus (MIE) status in recognition of his many years of commitment to excellence, professional growth, service to the aviation community, and quality aviation education. John is an independent flight instructor with the Hudson Valley Flying Club at Kingston-Ulster Airport (20N) and a FAASTeam representative in the FAA’s Albany FSDO area.
Karen Mayde KAHN, Master CFI, Santa Barbara CA
Karen M Kahn, a 4-time Master, recently renewed her Master CFI accreditation. Karen is an airline pilot, aviation author, consultant, and independent CFI at Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA). She also serves a chair of the Santa Barbara Airport Commission and is a FAASTeam representative in the FAA’s Van Nuys FSDO area.
Paul Edward JURGENS II, Master Ground Instructor, Williamsburg OH
Paul E Jurgens, a 2-time double Master, recently renewed his Master Ground Instructor (MGI) accreditation. Paul is the chief flight instructor for glider and multiengine training at Sporty’s Academy and Eastern Cincinnati Aviation at Clermont County Airport (I69). In addition, he is the vice president of publishing for Sporty’s Pilot Shop specializing in product development.
Ann Margaret “Meg” GODLEWSKI, Master CFI & Master GI, Lakewood WA
Meg Godlewski, a 3-time double Master, recently renewed her Master CFI and Master GI accreditations. Meg is a flight and ground instructor at Crest Airpark (S36), as well as Clover Park Technical College and Green River Community College. She is also a journalist with General Aviation News and is active in Women in Aviation as well as The 99s.
Gordon Ashby EWALD, Master CFI, Hardy VA
Gordon A Ewald, a 4-time Master, recently renewed his Master CFI accreditation. Gordon is the assistant chief CFI with Falwell Aviation (www.FlyFalwell.com), a Lynchburg Part 141 flight school with a satellite campus at Roanoke Regional Airport (ROA). He is also an independent flight and ground instructor who serves as a volunteer Angel Flight pilot.
Larry Stephen BOTHE, Master CFI, Seymour IN
Larry S Bothe, a 5-time Master, recently renewed his Master CFI accreditation. Larry is a flight instructor and a designated pilot examiner at Freeman Municipal Airport (SER). He also serves on the board of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) and is a FAASTeam representative in the FAA’s Indianapolis FSDO area.
James “Jim” MARTONE, Master Aviation Educator, Gilbert AZ
James Martone recently earned his Master Aviation Educator (MAE) accreditation. Jim is a senior consultant with Williams Aviation Consultants (WilliamsAviationConsultants.com) in Gilbert, AZ. A retired Air Force officer, he will soon become a FAASTeam representative with the FAA’s Scottsdale FSDO and is managing director of Trinity V1, an aviation and management consulting firm.
